dc.description.abstractIn the contemporary automotive landscape, the integration of sophisticated computerized systems into vehicles, particularly the emergence of smart electric vehicles, has led to an increasing array of functionalities. Consequently, there is a pressing need for more precise and comprehensive automobile diagnostic methods to facilitate effective repair procedures. The existing diagnostic systems are categorized as on-board and off-board, both employing distinct approaches while sharing a common principle—utilizing diagnostic trouble codes to pinpoint faults or system errors in the vehicle. This thesis focuses on implementing an off-board system using the unified diagnostic services defined in ISO-14229-1 and the CAN communication protocol defined by ISO-15765en_US
