dc.description.abstractThe purpose of the thesis is to investigate and implement a system which is used for tracking and positioning of any vehicle by using Global Positioning System (GPS) and Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM). As managing the fleet of vehicles is difficult in these days. High cost fleet maintenance, security risks are the challenges faced by the fleet owners. The owner need to keep track continuously their fleet in order to guarantee that their drivers are in the right way as well as their vehicles are in good status. The vehicle tracking system used to determine the location and status of a vehicle and then send that information to the owner for observing fleet from remote. In order to execute that, the system should include a hardware device installed on the vehicle and a web-based or software application service for monitoring There are many available tracking devices outside on the market, but most of them just served for personal use such as keep track of a personal car. Besides, the time interval of tracking in those devices usually drop in 30s – 1 min. Their product usually include a device attached on vehicle and go along with a mobile application. Our goal aims to design a system for managing a fleet of vehicle such as transportation fleet, bus fleet, taxi fleet in real time (the time interval is less than 5s) and owner can monitor and send alert to each vehicle in the fleet through web-based application. In our thesis, we have developed a vehicle tracking system, which is flexible, customizable and accurate. The obtained system meets all requirements from customer, and all the milestones/features are implemented ahead of schedule. We designed two prototypes in order to have a deep comparison among wireless communication technologies, types of micro-controller, hence from that we can take out practices, experiences then draw best materials for the final prototypeen_US
