Abstract:
An airbag system is a system to protect vehicle occupants from serious injury or death in the event of a collision. The essential demand of an airbag system is to be a life-saving device that minimizes the risk of injury and death in car accidents. By meeting the demands of effectiveness, reliability, safety, and incorporating additional features, airbag systems play a crucial role in enhancing road safety for drivers and passengers. This is achieved through a rapid deployment of a flexible cushion filled with gas, typically nitrogen, that absorbs the impact force and cradles the occupant's body.
Airbag systems are lifesavers in cars, protecting occupants during collisions with a complex interplay of sensors, inflators, and software. Accelerometers and crash sensors detect the impact, while occupant sensors adjust the airbag deployment based on presence, size, and position. The brain of the system, the ECU, crunches the data and triggers the inflator assembly, which rapidly generates gas to inflate the airbag modules within milliseconds. A diagnostic system continuously monitors the airbag's health, and a crash data recorder captures vital information for future analysis. It's all thanks to this intricate teamwork that airbags can minimize injuries and save lives.
