Abstract:
The country’s mass transportation problem cost the Vietnamese 140B annually. Aside from known factor such as lack of enough railway systems, traffic jams and delays play a major component in our transportation challenges.
The goal of this project is to address the need of commuters for relevant traffic information. For the case of transportation terminals, a bus tracking and monitoring system will aid commuters to decide what steps they should take. For instance, a commuter can decide, based on the available information, whether to wait for an incoming bus, transfer to another bus route waiting area, or choose a different transport vehicle.
In a bus tracking and monitoring system, the central server located at the bus terminal processes incoming information sent by every bus on route to the terminal. Using minimum information from buses such as timestamp and location, the central server uses these data to perform multiple functions such as display of bus arrivals, estimated arrival time, current bus location and distance from the terminal. Information can also be shown on tabular and map. The aim of this project is to develop the necessary software to enable a bus terminal system to perform, among others, the afore mentioned functions and features. This platform in the bus terminal will be indispensable to its everyday operations and will greatly enhance commuter experience.
