Information has been increasingly played an important role in the development of our modern society. As a result, the demand of exchanging a huge amount of information also becomes much more various.
Radio frequency communication is a reasonable choice because of the outstanding advantages that wireless technology has offered. Meanwhile, fiber-optic communication is developing rapidly with broad bandwidth and nearly optimized transmission environment. Yet, these solutions still have disadvantage. Then, there is RoF which
inherits the advantages of radio communication and fiber optics technologies and RoF is
expected to replace communication systems that use conventional copper cable in near
future.
First of all, in this project, we investigated the impact of parameters such as the power of transmitter, the power of the local oscillator, EDFA’s positions and its gain coefficient on the quality of the system with various lengths of transmission link. The quality of the system could be expressed as two important parameters, BER and SNR.
Then, by using MATLAB software, we investigate the impact of transmitter and local oscillator powers on BER values and implemented an algorithm that determines suitable parameters out of above variables so that the system would achieve quality in a given interval of values.
For evaluation, we used figures and data obtained from the implemented algorithm, simulated results to assess the performance of the system as well as accuracy of our algorithm. The overall results indicate a significant improvement in the
performance of the system.
